2016 Annual Egg Hunt

The Annual Egg Hunt sponsored by the Manheim Township Lions Club was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the Manheim Township Community Park located on Petersburg Road in Neffsville.  Members of the Manheim Township Leo Club helped to hide eggs and wear the Bunny costume.  There were prize eggs for lucky hunters.  It was a beautiful but cool day.  There were 200 to 300 hunters who gathered 4,000 eggs in just less two minutes.  Thanks to all who donated used eyeglasses and a special thanks to Lion Jerry for organizing this event

Basket Bingo - 2016

Thank you for your support of our Eleventh Annual Basket Bingo held on March 19, 2015. A special thanks to the entire group of basket sponsors as well as all of our door prize donors! Also, a special thanks to the Manheim Township School District for the use of their facilities and the Neffsville Community Fire Company for use of their tables and chairs.

100 percent of the profits from the Bingo will be used for the support of sight-related projects including SightLife formerly known as the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank, Leader Dog, Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp and Visioncorps formerly known as the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as community projects such as the Manheim Township Ambulance Association, the Manheim Township Library, the Manheim Township School District, Boy Scout Troop 84 and the Manheim Township Leo Club.

March 14 Meeting

At our March 14 meeting our speaker was David Eberly, Lancaster Airport Director.

The Lancaster Airport, built by the citizens of Lancaster County in 1935, is the fourth busiest airport in the State. It is home to 24 businesses that employ over 230 people on-site. The Manheim Township airport contributes more than $50 million dollars per year to our local economy.

It is operated by a five-member Board of Directors who serve without compensation. Two members are appointed by the City, two by the County and one is a joint city/county appointee.

Lancaster Airport covers an area of 850 acres at an elevation of 403 feet above mean sea level. It has two asphalt paved runways: 6,934 by 150 feet and 4,101 by 100 feet.

Sun Air Express offers daily service to and from Pittsburgh International Airport and Washington - Dulles.

In addition to hosting general aviation aircraft, Lancaster Airport is host to a variety of businesses: flight schools, planes for charter, aircraft rides, helicopter rides, hot air balloon rides, aircraft maintenance shops, a restaurant, and a gift shop. It serves the pilots who call Lancaster their home airport and the community.

After the formal meeting, Lion Sylvia presented awards to our Super Sub Salesmen, Lions Manny and Dwight. The pair sold in excess of 200 subs during our recent sale.

Roaring Rights Rivalry - 2016

The Fifth Annual Roaring Rights Rivalry between the Manheim Township Lions Club and the Manheim Township Leo Club was held on March 12, 2016 at the Hamilton Club in Lancaster. Lion Kathy Weierbach once again organized this event which started with an excellent luncheon. This year’s challenge was again Duck Pin Bowling.

The Leo Cubs team defeated the Lion Monarchs team by a score of 381 to 354 to take the match and retain the coveted Trophy Towel. The Lions congratulate the Leos on their win but advise them to watch out for next year. Even though the Leos are up 4 -1, the Lions pride is at stake!

We had the best time ever this year! This is the first time that we won all three games defeating the West Earl team with a score of 1,976!

Lead by Judy ”The Captain” Frantz, the Manheim Township Lions Club Team members were Jim “Sleeper” Coleman, Ron “Snowman” Henry, Dwight “Eastman Kodak” Rager, and Leo Lauren “The Ringer” Sterner. Lauren of course was our star performer…until she had to leave. Then Dwight really kicked it up a notch and rolled a 206! Jim Coleman bowled better than usual, and Ron made it this year, because there was no snow.

Thanks to all of those that came out to cheer us on!

Manheim Township High School Mini-THON - 2016

AND THE TOTAL IS ...

From 7:00 p.m. February 26 to 7:00 a.m. February 27, 2016 the students of the Manheim Township High School held their sixth Annual Mini-THON to benefit the Four Diamonds Fund at the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital in the Fight to Conquer Childhood Cancer. Donations to the Fund are used to provide emotional and financial support for families battling pediatric cancer and to fund cancer research.

More than 400 students attended the event.  Last year, $107,250 was raised. This year, $109,715 was raised! In excess of $362,414 has been raised over the past five years.

The Manheim Township Leo Club asked the Manheim Township Lions Club to help serve a 6:00 a.m. pancake breakfast for those who attended.  We cheerfully did so arriving at 3:00 a.m.  It was well worth getting up early as the students seemed to enjoy the breakfast.
