Fourth Annual Roaring Rights Rivalry - March 21, 2015

The Fourth Annual Roaring Rights Rivalry between the Manheim Township Lions Club and the Manheim Township Leo Club was held on March 21, 2015 at the Hamilton Club in Lancaster. Lion Kathy Weierbach once again organized this event which started with an excellent luncheon. This year’s challenge was again Duck Pin Bowling.

The Leo Cubs team defeated the Lion Monarchs team by a score of 1,050 to 999 to take the match and retain the coveted Trophy Towel. The Lions congratulate the Leos on their win but advise them to watch out for next year. Even though the Leos are up 3 -1, the Lions pride is at stake!

District 14-D Bowling Tournament - March 1, 2015

We had a fun time bowling at the District 14-D Bowling Tournament held at Dutch Lanes on March 1.  The Manheim Township Lions Club went head-to-head with the Millersville Lions Club composed of left handed ringers.  Lions Dwight "Eastman Kodak" Rager, Larry "Two different Shoes" Miller, George "The Blur" Groff, Judy "The Captain" Frantz  and Leo "The Ringer" Lauren made up our team.  Leo Lauren, was our high scorer with a 535.  She is Lion George Groff’s granddaughter and a member of the Manheim Township High School Bowling Team. Unfortunately we were defeated by a score of 2,537 to 1,850.

More than 400 students attended the event.  Last year, $80,211 was raised. This year, $107,250 was raised! In excess of $292,699 has been raised over the past five years.

The Manheim Township Leo Club asked the Manheim Township Lions Club to serve a 6:00 a.m. pancake breakfast for those who attended.  We cheerfully did so arriving at 3:00 a.m.  It was well worth getting up early as the students seemed to enjoy the breakfast.
