Adopt-A-Highway & Adopt-A-Road - April 8, 2017

Adopt-A-Highway offers Pennsylvania citizens the opportunity to show their pride in our beautiful state by caring for the environment.  We all know that a more attractive Pennsylvania is more attractive to our citizens, tourists and to businesses.

Food wrappers, aluminum cans, newspapers and cigarette packs.  From the city to the countryside, this is the trash that many careless people leave on Pennsylvania’s highways and roads.  It is not a pretty sight, and it certainly does not make a good impression on people who are traveling through our area.

The Manheim Township Lions Club participates in the Pennsylvania Adopt-A-Highway and Manheim Township’s Adopt-A-Road programs.  We have adopted the Fruitville Pike from Route 30 north to the Township line and Hess Boulevard from the Fruitville Pike to the Lititz Pike.  We will be conducting our Spring pickup on Saturday, April 8. As you drive, please be aware of our members along these roads.

Thanks For Your Support - White Cane Days - October 14 & 15, 2016

Thanks to all who donated. Your support is much appreciated!

The familiar white cane with a red band at the bottom is used by blind and visually impaired persons in many countries. As a result of a 1964 congressional resolution, the President of the United States annually issues a proclamation designating Oct. 15th as "National White Cane Safety Day." Lions Clubs help to increase awareness of the use of the white cane and laws governing its use.

To further that effort, on October 14 and 15 the Manheim Township Lions solicited contributions to be used exclusively for the support of sight-related projects including the SightLife, formerly the Northeast Pennsylvania Lions Eye Bank, Leader Dog, Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp and VisionCorp, formerly the Susquehanna Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Thanks to the community for their generous support, in excess of $2,400 was collected. Thanks to the following site sponsors for their support – A.C. Northeast Rotary Car Show - September 17, 2016

Thank you for your support at our food stand at The Northeast Rotary Car Show on September 19, 2015. 100% of the profits from our fund raising efforts are used to support Lions District 14-D projects and our community projects.

Clubs Donate Cirriculum Materials To The Manheim Township School District

2016 marks the thirteenth year that the Manheim Township Lions Club in partnership with the Manheim Township Leo Club and Lions District 14-D has donated Lion’s Quest curriculum materials to the Manheim Township School District. The Manheim Township Leo Club Seniors would have been in kindergarten when this program was first introduced. Lions Quest is a life skills and drug prevention program of Lions Clubs International Foundation, which has been implemented in more than 50 countries around the world.

The most widely used of the three Lions Quest programs, Skills for Adolescence, is taught as part of the sixth grade curriculum. This program helps youth, parents and teachers cope with the physical, emotional and social challenges of the early adolescent years. It is a comprehensive life skills and drug prevention curriculum that emphasizes character development, communication, decision making, and service-learning guiding young people toward healthy choices and a drug, alcohol and violence-free lifestyle.

Manheim Township Lions Club Annual Picnic - August 22, 2016

The 2016 Manheim Township Lions Club Picnic was held August 22 at the Manheim Township Community Park. Thanks to Lion Rick for organizing this event, Lion Alice for ordering the food and to all members and wives for bringing food. A good time was had by all.

Graduation Awards Presented By The Manheim Township Lions Club

The recipient of the Manheim Township Lions Club's 2016 Community Service Award was Brynn Kelly of Lancaster Catholic High School. Manheim Township High School senior Thomas Gerz was presented with the Club's Arthur J. Wetzler First Scholastic Honors Award. This award is presented in honor of a deceased member of the Manheim Township Lions Club. The annual Leo Award for Distinguished Leadership and Community Service was presented earlier to Manheim Township Leo President Ross Fladeland. These awards of $500 each are presented annually to deserving graduating seniors from each high school.

Congratulations to Brynn, Jessica and Ross and to all 2016 graduates of these schools!!
